About Damon
Damon Bachegalup BA (Hons), Dip (Couns) L7, Family Mediator L6 — Family Behavioural Consultant @ AYP Consulting, Integrative Psychotherapist and Author . Founder and Director of Private Teen Residentials UK
I have worked with families and young people for more than 26 years across various youth services, mental health support and family interventions. His professional background includes a wealth of experience in areas such as youth work, lone parent advisory roles, mental health counselling, Director of counselling at a mental health charity and also practising as a family mediator. In 2008, Damon founded Teencamps‑UK to provide discreet, structured support for families in the UK and internationally whose adolescent required stabilisation beyond the home environment. Today he personally oversees selective private 1:1 residential placements in the UK and Spain, working closely with families navigating behavioural escalation, emotional instability or entrenched conflict.
For more than 26 years, I have worked directly with families and adolescents facing serious behavioural challenges.
During that time I have helped hundreds of parents:
• regain authority in the home
• reconnect with their teenagers
• redirect young people back into education or purpose
• resolve destructive behavioural patterns
My work combines behavioural strategy, mentoring and family intervention.
When necessary, structured residential are used as a reset environment, but the core work is always with the family system itself.
How I Work With Families
Every family situation is different.
My work typically follows a structured process:
1. Private Family Assessment
A detailed consultation to understand the teenager, family dynamics and behavioural patterns.
2. Behavioural Strategy
Parents receive a clear plan to re-establish structure, authority and communication.
3. Teen Mentoring
Direct work with the teenager to rebuild motivation, responsibility and self-direction.
4. Family Intervention
When required, deeper behavioural intervention and family coaching.
5. Residential Reset
In certain cases, a structured residential experience can help remove negative influences and create a reset for the young person.
Who I Work With
My work is typically with families experiencing:
• teenage defiance and rebellion
• school refusal or disengagement
• gaming or digital addiction
• drug or alcohol experimentation
• motivation collapse
• family conflict or breakdown
Most parents who contact me have already tried traditional approaches without success.
Case Example
17-Year-Old Boy – School Refusal & Gaming Addiction
A family contacted me when their son had stopped attending school entirely and was spending 16 hours a day gaming.
The relationship between parents and teenager had collapsed into constant conflict.
Through structured intervention:
• family boundaries were reset
• the teenager received mentoring and behavioural guidance
• a short residential reset was introduced
Within six months he returned to education and family dynamics stabilised.
Private Consultation
Families begin with a private consultation.
This session allows us to:
• assess the situation
• identify the root behavioural issues
• create an initial intervention strategy
Consultation Length: 60 minutes
Format: Video or phone
